The Vista Primary Care Campus was the first facility in Ireland to deploy a wide bore MRI Scanner, the Siemens Magnetom Espree wide bore, 1.5 Tesla system. The length of the tunnel is 125 cm (approximately four feet) and the diameter of the bore is 70 cm (nearly 2.3 feet) which when compared to a non-wide bore MRI scanner, means that the hole in the tunnel is wider and the length of the tunnel shorter, resulting in 60% of examinations having both head and feet of the patient out of the scanner at the same time. This makes the scanner an ideal choice when referring claustrophobic or obese patients.

Vista also has a Toshiba Aquilion One CT Scanner, which is the first dynamic volume CT system in the world and indeed the only one of its kind in Ireland or the UK. The Aquilion One scans up to 16 cm of anatomy (eg. heart, brain or paediatric chest) in a single rotation, eliminating the need for helical scanning. The Aquilion One can perform dynamic imaging which can be used to produce a 4D video of a moving joint or a perfusing organ eg. brain, pancreas & kidney. The ultra fast scan times mean a significant reduction in radiation dose to the patient and a reduction in the amount of contrast medium used, thus reducing its effects on the kidneys. In addition to standard CT imaging we also offer specialised examinations including virtual colonoscopy, coronary angiograms, cardiac calcium scoring and brain perfusion imaging.

Ultrasound, benefitting from the Siemens Acuson Antares system, allows Vista to provide a full service, comprising of obstetrics, abdominal/pelvic, vascular, small parts including breast and musculoskeletal anatomy.

X-ray is an integral part of the department, with capabilities to offer a full range of cardiothoracic, abdominal, orthopaedic and paediatric imaging via the Siemens Multix Top x-ray unit in conjunction with an Agfa Computed Radiography system.
